The 2024 Toronto School Scrabble Championships will be held
on Tuesday March 5 and Thursday March 7!

Schools may register for either one or both events:

  • Tuesday March 5 – TSSC South at at St. Pius X Catholic School (map).
    • This school is close to Jane subway station of the TTC. Parking at the school is unlikely due to limited space, but street/paid parking lots are available nearby.
  • Thursday March 7 – TSSC North at at Dublin Heights Elementary and Middle School (map).
    • To get to Dublin Heights by subway:
      • Sheppard West: short walk.
      • Wilson Heights: short bus ride
      • Sheppard-Yonge subway: 1 bus across Sheppard and short walk
    • Close street parking on side streets, but need to move vehicle every 3 hours


The events will have a similar format to tournaments from previous years with the emphasis on friendly rivalry. There will be a variety of prizes for being a good sport, theme words, and participation. Plans are underway for separate tournaments in Halton and Peel region in the spring, so schools further west may wish to wait for that announcement.

  • 3 rounds
  • Games played 2 v 2
  • 25 minutes total for each team
  • Divisions are arranged by grades: 4 (Junior), 5-6 (Mid-low), 7-8 (Mid-high), 9-12 (Senior)
  • Grade fours will play with other grade fours in a Junior tournament. The tournament organizers reserve the right to make any format change and will do so based on the volume of registration at each level.

Game equipment will be provided. You can find docs on how to play on our website. Your players should have been playing a little bit prior to the tournament as we do not have the capacity to teach them the basic rules during the event, but do not let that discourage you from participating as we strive to make it inclusive and fun for all.

Students and teachers should pack a (peanut-free) lunch and snacks. Please note the lunch time in the schedule below. We recommend students bring a snack as well. We usually try to provide some healthy snacks too.

Numerous prizes will be awarded for sportsmanship, high plays, theme words, and participation. Top teams may qualify for a future finals event TBD. 


There is a maximum of 10 pairs per school, but you may request to send more than that by emailing If you have a player that lacks a partner, let us know and we may be able to arrange a partner from another school. If players require any specific accommodations to make it more accessible, please let us know. 

In order to continue to grow the local competitive SCRABBLE® scene, members of the media are invited to visit the events. Therefore, all players must also present a completed Student Media Release Consent form.
